This joint training which is organised and designed by Med Culture in collaboration with Tfanen, targeted professionals from Tunisia and the South Mediterranean countries in the framework of the “Laboratoires d’apprentissage et de partage” (Learning and Sharing Labs), a Tfanen project, funded by the European Union as part of the bilateral programme dedicated to culture developement in Tunisia (PACT).

The training aimed to equip professional facilitators operating in the culture sector to orchestrate a series of workshops across Tunisia in 2019.

The training workshpp followed the successful methdology and tools initiatied in the TOT 2017 and developed in the two workshops designed around the theme of resilience in cultural work. It fited new needs (training facilitators), while mainting the learning component as a fundamental value. It focussed on processes of project design and development and on collaborative work.  

The  objective of the workshop was to:

  • Support Tfanen in building a good relationship based on mutual understanding and trust
  • Support Tfanen team laying the foundation about future quality cooperation with the pool member though a simulation exercice
  • Re-visit adult learning, and building a common understanding of notions within the pool
  • Harnessing the power of a group: group learning, facilitating in cultural projects
  • Discover or re-discover non- formal education approach to learning and group dynamics
  • Get input on essential steps to design and deliver spaces such as lab.
  • Designing spaces for facilitation, within a team, for debates or with communities
  • Building a team within the pool based on mutual trust
  • Reflective practice and modeling back: building on “appreciative inquiry”, starting from your own experiences and elaborating new tools and methodologies
  • & applied principles

The trainers applied the principles of non-formal education, which include:

  • Developing an educational approach based on the needs and profiles of learners which mean adapting and reviewing constantly the programme
  • Sharing our personal educational approach to learning and learners
  • Taking advantage of what the physical environment of the course venue has to offer
  • Giving space for informal moments, and considering them as essential learning moments
  • Supporting learners in identifying and pursuing their own learning needs
  • Establishing a relationship with learners based on trust, respect and clarity of roles
  • Stimulating active participation; motivating and empowering learners
  • Creating an inspiring and safe learning environment taking into account various learning preferences
  • Facilitating the group dynamic in a way that is favourable to learning
  • Fun as an essential underlying feature of successful learning
  • Graphic facilitation as an essential underlying feature of successful learning
