Arts and Science Open Call
Art, science and technology are at the heart of the artistic residency program at the European Southern Observatory (ESO), the main organisation in the world for ground-based astronomy, located in Chile. In collaboration with the Ars Electronica FutureLab in Linz (Austria).
In early 2015, ESO issued the first Art & Science Open call for an artistic residence in the framework of the European Digital Art & Science Network, initiated by Ars Electronica with seven additional European partners. More then 140 artists from 40 different countries applied to the call, out of which the Chilean Maria Egnacia Edwards was selected to be the first ESO resident artist.
Digital artists from around the world are now invited to apply for the second Arts & Science Open Call, presenting innovative concepts and ideas that combine artistic creation, science and technology to imagine the future of humankind. In addition to accommodation at ESO, the award includes an artistic fee of 3,000 Euro and coverage of travel expenses.
The selected project will be showcased at the 2016 edition of the Ars Electronica Festival in Linz, one of world’s most important media art festivals, initiated in 1979 with the aim to explore future scenarios for culture and society linked to the development of new technologies. It will then be exhibited at the venues of the other partners of the European Digital Art & Science Network, in Ireland, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain (Gìjon and Zaragoza), Sweden, and United Kingdom.
Deadline for submission is 29 November, 2015
