Call for applications: Forecast Forum for pioneering ideas

Pioneers from anywhere in the world working in various disciplines may submit their project ideas to the second edition of Forecast, an international forum for pioneering ideas. Selected participants will have the chance to work with accomplished mentors toward bringing their projects to fruition, and to present them to the public. Forecast’s aim is to provide insight into creative production processes, and make space for the questions on the minds of the next generation of trailblazers.

Forecast will invite 30 applicants to discuss their ideas and present them to the public at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW, the House of World Cultures) in Berlin, Germany, during the Forecast Forum from 27 March to 1 April 2017.

At the end of the Forecast Forum, each of the six mentors will select one concept to accompany to its realization. The outcome of these collaborations will be presented from 16 to 21 October 2017, at the Forecast Festival at the HKW.

The following mentors are participating in the current edition of Forecast in 2016/2017: curator Hou Hanru (China), designer Heather Martin (United Kingdom), video artist Bjørn Melhus (Germany, Norway), architect Philippe Rahm (Switzerland), choreographer Richard Siegal (USA), and composer Jennifer Walshe (Ireland).

Forecast is open to participants from all over the world, with no restrictions or eligibility requirements regarding disciplines or genres

Travel and accommodation costs will be reimbursed, depending on actual costs, and according to the German Travel Expenses Act/Bundesreisekostengesetz. A production budget for a first realization of the project will also be awarded.

To apply, please choose your mentor and fill in the online form here in English by sending information about you, your concept, your portfolio, your life and career. You can also send your application by post to:

Each mentor will decide which applicants shall participate at the Forecast Forum, and later at the festival.

The submission deadline is 30 November. Please note that post mails should be received by 30 November in Berlin (not its postmark date).

All applicants will receive notification of the decisions on or before 31 January 2017.
